Q Getting Started Faith and Life His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?” “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.” He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then He took the seven loaves and the fish, and when He had given thanks, He broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward, the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children. (Matthew 15:33–38, NIV) There is something interesting about the way in which this food is served. At first glance, it appears there is not enough to go around. Some will have to do without. But with Jesus, you can often expect the unexpected. Somehow everyone is fed and everyone is satisfied. Notice that this occurred within a community of learners. The same should happen in this class. The textbook and the instructor have a little bit of food. Within the community of learners, you will find that you can be filled and satisfied. It is through the interactions, one with another, that you will experience the unexpected. You can expect Jesus to miraculously feed you! And what do you think the disciples did with the leftovers? Why, they gave them to others who had not eaten! So, when you have completed this course, pass on your sociological knowledge so that others may be satisfied. Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to: • Articulate a Christian perspective on the social world around you. • Practice Christian social responsibility in your daily social activities. ________________________________________ Background Information The writer poses the question, “Why is it so hard “to be?” Why is it so hard to sit in the silence and let Him be Lord?” We will be examining this question in-depth in this assignment. ________________________________________ Instructions 1.
